Trash Mob 2024
COLLECTIVE ACTIVISM 2024 – TRASH MOB!
Plastic pollution remains a persistent and concerning issue in our environment, from beaches and parks to streets, rivers, and playgrounds worldwide. Its presence wreaks havoc on ecosystems and poses a significant threat to wildlife. If left unaddressed, this problem will continue to escalate, with far-reaching consequences for our planet.
However, there is hope. Together, we have the power to enact change—regardless of who we are, where we live, or where we attend school.
This April, on Earth Day, we are launching a Nationwide Trash Mob initiative, scheduled to run from July 1st – July 7th 2024.
WHAT IS A TRASH MOB?
A Trash Mob is a focused spick, span, and speedy cleanup of your school, aimed at tackling plastic pollution in school grounds. Before we can effectively address this issue, we must first understand it. This means identifying and documenting the single-use plastic items that litter our playgrounds.
This campaign serves as a platform for children across the nation to come together, forming a united front against single-use plastic pollution in UK schools. Participants will not only learn the importance of environmental stewardship but also become citizen scientists, collecting crucial data on plastic pollution. This data will serve as evidence to hold industries accountable for their packaging practices, raise awareness about single-use plastic pollution, and inspire others to take action.

Even if you’ve already achieved accreditation, joining in provides an engaging opportunity for children and young people to participate in citizen science and gather essential data.
Can schools that are not yet signed up to Plastic Free Schools participate? Absolutely! The more schools that join in, the louder our message will be, and the greater impact we can make.
